Jack and Grandma have always had a great bond. She took care of him one day of week when he was a baby, while I was working part-time. It was during this time that they would play all day, cuddle under blankets (cause Grandma was ALWAYS cold at our house), eat hot dogs with the skin pealed off because Grandma was afraid Jack would choke, and watch Jack's favorite TV show The Teletubbies. Well, on Wednesday afternoon, while looking through a Hallowwen catalog that had arrived in the mail they were reminiscing about the "good old days" upon seeing a picture of a Teletubbie costume. Jack said to Grandma, "Grandma, remember when we would watch Teletubbies together? Well just look at us now, we're watching Jeopardy." It was one of those really precious things that you will always remember your child saying.
Grandma also went to school with us on Friday. She visited everyone's classroom and brought a treat for all the kids! She got to answer some really tough questions in 3rd grade about Arizona, met all the students in my classroom and listened to all their funny stories, she also told some funny stories to my class about me when I was 7 years old. Then it was off to Nicky's kindergarten. Well was this kid ever proud of having his Grandma at school. With his arm around her the whole time he told his class that his Grandma lives in Arizona, that she has a lemon and orange tree in her backyard, that she has a hummingbird feeder, that she once bought a scary witch mask and scared him on Halloween, and that she has crossed the Mississippi River. Unfortunately I missed this wonderful tribute but it meant so much to my Mom. I'm glad she was able to spend the afternoon with us!
All in all we had a great couple days - including today - as we left early for the airport and spent the morning shopping in Denver, just like the "good old days!" Thanks Mom, we miss you already!
